Running late in morning? That's where the dependable banana comes in. However, research indicates that it is not the best breakfast option.
Bananas aren't a healthy option for breakfast, says Dr. Daryl Gioffre, creator of the AlkaMind diet.
While the tropical fruit has many beneficial properties, such as being high in potassium, magnesium, and fiber, it is not suitable as a breakfast snack.
According to Dr. Gioffre, this is because "they're 25% sugar and moderately acidic." They will provide a temporary boost, but you will soon feel tired and hungry again.
Dr. Gioffre even refers to them as "Nature's candy." They can actually trigger cravings, which can lead to bingeing later on.
If you only eat one banana, you will feel weak. However, if you eat the banana with healthy fats, spices, and herbs, you can get rid of this effect.
Foods such as coconut butter, raw almonds, hemp, flax, and chia seeds come highly recommended by Dr. Gioffre.
In order to reap the health benefits of bananas (potassium, fiber, and magnesium) without experiencing a sugar rush, it is necessary to neutralize the acid.
